Funding Suggestions for Schools
Schools and districts can sometimes find supplemental funding for our outdoor school and in-school programs. This list is provided to support you search:
- The Berkeley Public Education Foundation has funded teacher's requests for grants to attend the Outdoor School in the past. The applicant must be a BUSD (Berkeley School District) employee working in classrooms or programs in school.
- In Dulci Jubilo awards grants to Berkeley public school teachers, administrators, and the Berkeley community for programs schoolwide or community wide to close the public school achievement gap.
- National Association of Elementary School Principals/MetLife Foundation Sharing the Dream Grants (due 7/8/09) support to principals working to develop programs committed to heightening community leadership, communication, ownership, and involvement in their schools with the goal of improving achievement for all students.
- The East Bay Community Foundation will sometimes support our partner schools.
- Donors Choose allows teachers to submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. Concerned individuals choose projects to fund.
- Stimulus funds are available from the Department of Education to implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Sometimes federal, state, and local grants are offered which help support teachers to integrate social-emotional learning and character development into their classroom work or prevent violence in or near schools, illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, and promote parental and community involvement.
- The Sprint Character Education Grant Program supports K–12 education initiatives within the focus area of character education.
- Future Educators for Character grants, available from the Character Education Partnership, help support innovative approaches for preparing new teachers to integrate sound character development into their classroom work.
- Teaching Tolerance support classroom teachers' efforts to reduce prejudice, improve intergroup relations or support professional development in these areas.
- Safe Schools/Healthy Students grants, available from the US Department of Education, support LEAs in the development of communitywide approaches to creating safe and drug-free schools and promoting healthy childhood development. Programs are intended to prevent violence and the illegal use of drugs and to promote safety and discipline.
- SchoolGrants is an all around resource for available grants and grant writing.
